The Simple Woman's Daybook #21

(Hosted each Tuesday at The Simple Woman's Daybook)

FOR TODAY... May 11, 2010

Outside my window... It’s after 8 pm and dark! (And cold!)
I am thinking... of things I have to do tomorrow.
I am thankful... for my husband and children; and for being able to go away this last weekend; for the Lord’s hand over us while travelling, and while we were camping.
I am wearing... Orange button-down shirt, dark brown corduroy skirt.
I am remembering... Other camping trips we went on with friends – memories that make me sad actually - they were such happy times.
I am going... to bath soon, and then go to bed!
I am currently reading... We’re reading 1 Samuel as a family, I’m reading Mark, and I picked up a book that the kids were reading, The Penguin Expedition, and I’m reading that too.. ;-)
I am hoping... that there won’t be the predicted fuel shortage in Gauteng (due to yet another strike!)
I am hearing ... not much – Keren is playing with Daniel and Ben in one of the bedrooms, and I can only just hear them. Otherwise it’s pretty quiet here.
From the learning rooms…Last minibooks on Ancient Rome to be completed tomorrow, and some crafts on it to be done on Friday. We start a new Technology series tomorrow that I found at the local library. I have set some goals for the end of term for language and maths, and the kids will only be able to take holidays when the goals have been met. (This is a very short term, with four weeks of holiday in June due to the World Cup – but I want to get as much work done as possible). Daniel and Ben have also decided to each do a lapbook of their own choosing – Daniel wants to do The Big 5, and Ben chose horses. We’ll start them next week.
Noticing that... Ben has outgrown his newest clothes!!!
From the kitchen… We just had Everything Soup (made in my new pressure cooker – my Mother’s Day gift!!). Not sure what the rest of the week holds…
Around the house... The garden is just a carpet of leaves, as soon as some are raked up, others fall.
One of my favorite things… kittens!
Plans for the rest of the week… The usual lessons, I’m taking Nathan and Daniel clothes shopping tomorrow, Eden has a party on Friday which she has to dress up as a movie character for. She wants to go as Padme Amidala or Princess Leia – got to get her a costume. She also wants to go and see a friend of hers playing in a concert with the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra on Saturday – Malcolm will take her.
From my picture journal…

  1. I love the new look ... very pretty!

I often read the books the kids leave around the house, too. We haven't done any lapbooks this year, but as we study the individual US states, we are going to do a combo of lapbooking and notebooking for them ... it will take us a while to go through all 50 states, though!

    Have a good week!

  2. It's feeling like autumn here this week too with freezing temps overnight on the weekend. The new maple tree kept blowing over in the wind, so Tim put it in the sun room -- it needs to go live in the ground soon!

    Cute Tigger photo :-)

Cute new blog background too -- tho' I enjoyed the beautiful picture you had before.

Glad to hear you had a good weekend with the family ~ Have a great week, Felicity ♥

  3. Camping sounds like fun. Love the new background! To answer your question about our homeschooling, I homeschooled my 2 oldest for 5 years. Brian wanted to go to school for high school, so we put him back in Christian school. Alyssa is still home with me (2 days left) and she will go to school in the fall with her brother. Our youngest is in public school because she needs intensive services due to her special needs. While I would love to homeschool them all, that didn't turn out to be best for them. Sorry you asked? :)

  4. No, no, I didn't mean that it wasn't a nice comment at all!! It's great to have people asking about homeschooling. I just meant that I get to be verbose at times! I hoped I didn't bore you with my answer ;) The trouble with being a writer, I suppose. It's interesting what you do with homeschooling and the options you have.
