FOR TODAY... October 24th 2011
Outside my window... A HOT night, after a real scorcher of a day – it was predicted to be 35C (95F) – and there have been reports that it was actually 40C (104F)! Malcolm said it was already 33C at 9am!
I am hearing... Crickets chirping, and sounds of children in the house.
Today I... Got some ironing done, got the kids through some schoolwork, and then spent the afternoon at a friend’s house. It’s good to catch up with others! ;-)
Counting my Blessings... God’s Grace in our lives, my family, and my parents’ safe trip down to Port Elizabeth.
I am praying for... Clarity on a decision for next year’s schooling, patience for me as I wait for something BIG, for my parents to settle down well in their new home, and praying urgently for a friend of mine whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer last week – she’s only 11!!
I am wearing... Denim skirt with yellow t-shirt. (I realised today just how few clothes I have that are suitable for such hot weather! Certainly none to wear out...)
I am currently reading... The Bible, and hopefully soon The Chronicles of Narnia (when the kids finish with the book...)
From the learning rooms… Studying China with Daniel and Ben; Reducing fractions with Daniel, and I want Ben to finish with his maths book (Mastering Multiplication). Keren has suddenly decided that learning is fun after all, and is galloping ahead on her reading program.
From the kitchen… I have been failing at meal planning lately – must get back into the habit!! We had chicken nuggets and salad in pitas tonight – too hot for anything else.
Around the house... We’re working off a new chore planner and it seems to be more successful than our last effort! We came home to a clean and tidy house today!
Something from now that I'd like to remember in future... My parents gave us two bottles of cocktail pickled onions - red and green ones. Nathan was eating one on a toothpick and Jordan thought it was a lollipop and cried until he got a taste! He was not impressed...
Plans for the rest of the week… Eden is currently at a rehearsal for a concert that will take place next week, regular music lessons, and a shopping trip for the two girls and I.
From my picture journal…
Cute pic! I'm laughing about the pickled onion 'lollipop' :D
ReplyDeleteStay cool, my friend ~ It's early for it to be so very hot, isn't it?
First, let me say that I LOVE the picture! Such a cute idea ... I may have to "borrow" it!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I am in the same boat with the menu planning and our grocery spending has been reflecting my lack of planning, ugh!
Finally, I am curious about your chore planner ... that is something I have worked on lots of times, but never really been successful with.
I hope you have a great week!
That is a great picture! Certainly understand the meal planning predicament - meals in our house usually come together at the last minute. Does it get that hot by you every year?
ReplyDeleteLove the story about the pickled onions - and the prompt you added (something I'd like to remember) - I'd love to 'borrow' that :D
ReplyDeleteFabulous picture of your kids - priceless!
Julie
Very cute picture of your kids! Love it :o)
ReplyDeleteJulie G - please use it :-)
ReplyDeleteMelanie and Liz - it can get very hot about now, but usually cools after the rains come, but this week's temperatures were definitely an unusual heatwave!
Jennifer - I'll detail our new chore planner in a post ok?
